In our new team profile series, Humans of Swoop Aero, we’re introducing you to the incredible individuals who work to tackle seemingly insurmountable challenges, create nuanced strategy, and deploy our ground-breaking technology to positively impact millions of people’s lives every day.
Introducing… Operations Manager Julian Woods
Julian Woods is one of our Flight Operations Managers. As an Aerospace Engineer and Pilot, Julian has a background in both manned and unmanned aviation.
“I started my career working on bespoke helicopter fitouts for rescue operations,” said Julian, “Prior to my current role, I led the manufacturing of Swoop aircraft, producing our first 10 airframes.”
As Operations Manager, Julian now leads the development of new networks around the world, taking projects from the initial network design phase through to a sustainable operation by utilising local workforces. This includes operational and technical support in places like Malawi, Mozambique and DR Congo.
“In Australia, I work on building scalable processes for project development and provide remote support. I enjoy putting my technical skills and life-experience to the test in foreign environments, working with a diverse range of people from very different backgrounds and seeing cutting edge tech put to good use.”
Julian is currently on the ground in the Democratic Republic of Congo, working with our local teams to ensure emotional and economic prosperity for local communities as we continue to grow the Swoop Aero network in the country.
“I enjoy seeing the real-world impact our technology has on communities in remote areas. Seeing the local workforce learn and grow, providing a service that has real value to all involved.”
