Commercial Operations

Commercial Director – International Markets | Full-Time

About the role

Commercial Directors lead the market entry strategy for Swoop Aero in new markets across the globe. They lay the foundations for long term business relationships by understanding the needs of current and future customers, stakeholders, and partners to drive strategic growth for the business.

They are communicators, facilitators, and leaders with a drive to succeed; they aren’t just selling a service, you are changing people’s lives by revolutionising access to healthcare.

In this role you can expect to spend at least half the time travelling abroad in South East Asia or Africa, building the lasting relationships with businesses, partners, and governments needed to take Swoop Aero into a new region. So far, we are operating in DRC and Vanuatu, and we have a strong focus on Africa and South East Asia.

About you

Commercial Directors are supported by the marketing, strategy, and operations functions in the commercial team, both on the ground alongside them, and from HQ in Melbourne, Australia. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, but we have some specific requirements:

  • Developing and implementing commercial strategies to accelerate growth in a geographic region
  • Understanding the requirements of existing customers, and implementing strategies to ensure their needs are being met
  • Overcome challenges and roadblocks to acquire new customers and manage client relationships (new and existing)
  • Build and maintain deep and sustainable partnerships with key stakeholders
  • You’ll have demonstrated experience creating opportunities and facilitating business development in the emerging world. You can build genuine and lasting relationships with stakeholders at all levels, and overcoming adversity to achieve outstanding results.
  • You have strong Commercial account management and business development experience; this could also be working for an NGO or a multi-lateral to build relationships and develop new markets.
  • You have exposure to working with new technology implementation.
  • You’ve can demonstrate proven leadership ability, and have at least 18 months of experience in a management role.
  • You’re fluent in French, Portuguese, or Bahasa Indonesian.
  • Experience working in private healthcare, public health systems, or an international development health program is a strong plus.

Business Development Manager | Full-Time

About the role

As we grow the business into new markets, you will be responsible for finding and pursuing new business opportunities. You will assess the market opportunity, speak to all the potential stakeholders, design a business plan from end to end, and then follow through to ensure that the opportunity becomes a reality! 

You will be based mostly (around 80% of the time) in Jakarta or Manila, according to your preference, but will spend time travelling both between the Philippines and Indonesia, and also training at the Swoop Aero HQ in Melbourne. There will also be other opportunities to travel more extensively in Southeast Asia or further afield if this is something that appeals to you. 

You will be responsible for managing multiple stakeholders in the sales and reporting processes, and will help manage the broader sales pipeline as well as your own pipeline that you will have created. You will undertake research and analysis regarding new business opportunities and the company expansion strategy. You will be working within the commercial team, driving a crucial area of the business at an important time for the company. 

As our operations grow, you will manage and run ground operations in conjunction with our aviation operations teams. You will also be responsible for reviewing commercial contracts to help ensure they are commercially practical and reasonable and provide input as necessary. This will also entail setting up corporate entities and other business infrastructure in new countries and new markets.

Commercial Operations Associate | Full-Time

About the role

As we grow the business into new markets, the commercial team is growing. As the title suggests, you will be at the centre of the commercial operations of the business. You will work with the rest of the team, but will also have the autonomy to manage your own workstreams. 

A little more about your role & responsibilities on the commercial side:  

  • You will help manage and monitor the company strategy and KPIs
  • You will use structured problem solving to produce clear Powerpoint decks and financial models in support of company fund-raising efforts
  • You will help manage financial models and the company budget
  • You will undertake research and analysis regarding new business opportunities and the company expansion strategy
  • You will help with managing multiple stakeholders in the sales and reporting processes, and will help manage the broader sales pipeline

You will be working within the commercial team, driving a crucial area of the business at an important time for the company. 

As our operations grow, you will also need to help us with the operations of our business. This will involve elements of the following: 

  • Designing and implementing processes for our ground operations in conjunction with our aviation operations teams
  • You will monitor the processes and improve upon them iteratively
  • You will help us to review commercial contracts to help ensure they are commercially practical and reasonable and provide input as necessary
  • You will help with setting up corporate entities and other business infrastructure in new countries and new markets.

As part of this, you will work with stakeholders and the wider operations team to manage import/ export of equipment and aircraft as we set up operations in new markets.

Project Coordinator | Full-Time

About the role:

 

With our experience and capital backing, we’re working to build our global team and expand operations across multiple markets. Last year we tripled our team size, and this year we are doing it again!

To help us achieve our vision and stay on track while completing projects around the world, we’re looking for a superstar Project Coordinator to provide invaluable support to Project Managers in Africa, Asia and Australia. Working closely with the flight operations  team and the commercial team, you will be the first point of contact for our project managers and enable the success of our life-changing projects. 

Some of the key things you will be doing include:

  • You will coordinate projects across 3 continents and be able to manage short and sometimes conflicting deadlines whilst working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • You will think critically and laterally, in order to identify the best person to solve a problem, come up with creative solutions, and generally ensure that our life-saving operations run smoothly
  • You are able to maintain clear communication across teams, departments and partners to ensure all are aware of critical dates, milestones and that deadlines have been met  
  • You will be working with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate actions and identify resources required to complete actions in line with expectations
  • You will help to identify and define project requirements, scope, and objectives.
  • You will provide general administrative support to project managers 
  • You report and escalate potential roadblocks to management as needed
  • You will create, maintain and update project documentation, plans and reports.

Head of Regulatory Affairs | Full-Time

About the role:

As the Head of Regulatory Affairs, you will be at the centre of driving this transformation. You will direct the regulation process and ensure all necessary applications are filed as well as develop and maintain all relationships with global aviation authorities and regulators to ensure approvals are acquired as needed. You will support smooth market entry into new markets from a regulatory perspective and help with the development of new routes in existing markets.  You will contribute to an inclusive, highly dynamic and results-driven international team The Head of Regulatory Affairs is a pivotal customer and client-facing role, and as part of your day to day duties you will be required to:

  • Direct the regulation process for products requiring governmental approval by ensuring that all necessary applications are filed and handling all government interactions.
  • You will assist in developing procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • You will manage a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. You will create functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function.
  • You will develop budgets, policies and procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
  • Meet with customers, partners, and regulatory agencies to understand key stakeholder needs, and harmonise internal processes to achieve commercial outcomes.

Essential experience and qualifications:

International Flight Operations Manager | Full-Time

About the role

The International Flight Operations Manager plays a key role in leading the deployment of a Swoop Aero network abroad; they’re the boots on the ground, in every location where we operate.

You can expect to spend up three to four months abroad in a South-East Asian or African region, leading a small team to commence flight operations and build the local Swoop Aero capacity for long-term operations.

About you

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but we have some specific requirements for the right candidate:

  • Demonstrated experience working in the emerging world, interacting with stakeholders at a high level, and overcoming adversity to achieve outstanding results. This could be working for an NGO or a multi-lateral, and any commercial experience is a bonus.
  • Exposure to aviation operations, ideally holding a civil pilots license or have experience managing aircraft operations
  • You can demonstrate proven leadership ability, and have at least 18 months of experience in a management role
  • Fluent in French, Portuguese, or Bahasa Indonesian
  • You love to be challenged, can work quickly to solve complex problems, and have a strong attention to detail
  • You’re comfortable being hands-on in less-than-perfect situations, where the temperature, language, or geography may be a barrier to overcome in order to get the job done

About the role:

The Flight Operations team are responsible for daily operations from a Swoop Aero hub. This includes checks and aircraft preparation, flight execution, recovery, and responsibility for knowledge transfer when working alongside international team members. The Ops team are the boots on the ground, everywhere we work.

You can also expect opportunities to work abroad in a South East Asian or African region, working with a local and Australian team to kick off flight operations and build local Swoop Aero capacity in the region for enduring operations. So far, we are operating in DRC and Vanuatu.

About you:

You love to be challenged, work quickly to solve complex problems, and have a strong attention to detail. You are comfortable being hands on in hot, humid and cold outdoor environments, and cooperating with diverse groups of people, including those with language barriers, to get the job done.

The role of Flight Controls Engineer will be to design, implement and test flight controls for fixed wing aircraft that also have vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities.   •       Implementation of new software or algorithms to support mission – specific capabilities
  •       Integration of sensors in aircraft’s state estimator

Robotics Software Engineer | Full-Time

About Swoop Aero: 

At Swoop Aero, our goal is to revolutionise the way medicine is delivered to everyone, everywhere. Swoop Aero is an aeromedical drone logistics company that has been operational since 2017. In December 2018, Swoop Aero became the first company globally to provide an immunisation vaccine via drone. In 2019, Swoop Aero conducted flight operations in Vanuatu and the Democratic Republic of Congo, which were extremely successful in linking up geographically remote communities with essential healthcare supplies and vaccines. About the role:  

Swoop Aero is looking for a highly ambitious, self motivated and experienced individual for the position of Robotics Software Engineer. In this role, you will design, implement and test a broad range of software and firmware systems that are suitable for aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capacity.

Job Requirements:

  • Develop advanced guidance, navigation, and control behaviours for autonomous, pay load, long range VTOL, aircraft operating in multiple complex scenarios
  • Work with machine vision and perception specialists to build a rich set of autonomous capabilities based upon sophisticated sensor fusion
  • Source, qualify, select and validate a variety of perception sensors
  • Source and/or develop sensor drivers as needed to pull data into the robotic system
  • Rapid prototyping of sensor and actuator subsystems to eliminate uncertainties in forward-looking aircraft design
  • Work closely with the Controls and Reliability teams to ensure a smooth handoff of validated systems
  • Assist in troubleshooting sensor, actuator an controls problems that arise in pre-production systems
  • Develop software and firmware that is reproducible, traceable and transparent manner to ensure a streamline, efficient production system
  • Develop tests, set up continuous integration pipelines and document design decisions

Essential Qualification:

  •  Advanced written and communication skills
  •  High degree of proficiency with program software and language used in embedded systems and robotics
  •  Prior experience and practical operation of robotics and autonomous vehicle technologies and techniques such as stereo vision, mapping, localization, static, dynamic and non-cooperative obstacle avoidance, sensor fusion and filtering
  •  Advanced knowledge of robotics algorithms and an understanding of real time systems
  •   Advanced knowledge of concurrent programming and memory management in bare metal, RTOS, or Linux based environments
  •   Ability to read and write sensor and actuator drivers written in a C-like language
  •   Experience using common Linux command-line tools for building and testing code
  •   Ability to break down complex, long-term projects into a series of smaller iterations with finite time constraints
  •   Minimum three years of experience building a series of robotic systems

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience building custom software for drones / UAVs / flying robots
  • Prior experience developing vision-based perception code, especially with Nvidia Jetson and CUDA

As a senior member of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will continue to develop and push a passionate, high-commitment, high-initiative culture.   •   Work independently to solve complex problems, mitigate for risks and contribute to an inclusive, productive team environment

About the Role:

As Robotics UAV Electrical Technician, you will have experience in digital systems, sensors and power systems to develop the vehicle avionics and ground based launch and recovery electrical designs. What you will be required to do:

  • Functionally test electronic sub-assemblies
  • Set up PCBA tests in environmental chamber and run temperature cycles, monitoring the performance, and recording data
  • Design and development of printed circuit board assemblies
  • Repair PCBA’s and wiring assemblies
  • Debug new PCBA’s on the bench
  • Check point – to –point continuity on complicated sub assemblies
  • Order and kit parts for new assemblies
  • Assist in the final inspection of UAV’s including pack out
  • Troubleshoot issues to root cause
  • Perform other duties that may be required
  • Travel on occasion

Key Qualifications:

  •  A Bachelor Degree in a relevant engineering field, or combination of relevant course work and experience.
  •  Previous work experience in electronics or electro-mechanical assemblies
  •  Previous work experience in troubleshooting and testing electronics to the component level
  •  Strong ability to demonstrate an advanced background in digital and analogue electronics
  •  Proficient at troubleshooting circuit boards and wire harnesses utilising schematics, wiring diagrams, and test equipment; including multimeters and oscilloscopes
  •  Strong capability to set up and run functional and environmental testing on both PCMA’s and system components
  •  Experienced at prototyping circuits and performing solder rework to a high standard – proficient with surface mount components
  •  Advanced use of software testng suites, Labview, Hypertrm (Networking experience is also a plus) 
  •  Ability to work in fast paced, dynamic environments
  •  Strong work ethic, high-energy and a motivated self starter
  •  Visual Acuity, clear attention to detail and highly diligent

Software Development

Computer Vision Programmer | Contract

About the role: 

We’re looking for someone to join our team on a contract basis to lead a project to build new autonomous capability in our software. We are after someone who can drive a project to utilise computer vision to expand the autonomous capability of our vehicles, by utilising your experience building computer vision systems that utilise data from a pre-trained neural network to facilitate real-time operation on embedded hardware.

About you:

Ideally, you’ve worked on a similar project and are comfortable owning and leading the project to completion. You’ll need a background in robotics, machine-learning, or as an embedded systems computer vision expert.

  • Experienced with Jetson Nano TX2 or similar
  • Experienced with Google CloudML or AWS Sagemaker (preferable)
  • Exposure to computer science
  • PhD or similar with a similar project
  • Experience with embedded software in robotics applications
  • Experience with safety critical systems
  • You’ll need to be self-driven and able to drive change in a fast-moving organisation
  • You’ll be an expert communicator and comfortable working alongside business and technical stakeholders, at all levels, to share your knowledge and expertise
